I dedicate my non-profit organization project from sophomore year of college to the Coconino Humane Association located in Flagstaff. I appreciate shelters and their volunteers. Personally, I adopted my beautiful sweet dog from an animal shelter and she brings constant love and happiness into my life.
I researched the organization and realized that its website had numerous forms of advertisement, but non of them were cohesive in appearance or unified in any way. Their current ads are very straightforward, but dull and unattractive. These observations inspired me to create a unified set of advertisements that are bright, vivid, positive, and instantly appealing to the viewer. I created a poster and mailer that contain a happy and colorful collage of a Labrador dog (like the one found in the Coconino Humane Association logo). Both of these items also include a slogan saying “Make your life a little brighter,” because adopting an animal from the shelter brings pure joy and positivity to both the owner and creature's life.
Usually, Humane Societies create very sad advertisements for their cause to appeal to the viewer's emotions and drive them into action, but people usually skip these negative ads to avoid the pain or uncomfortable emotions felt from watching suffering animals. I hope that my more positive approach captivates my poster and mailer’s viewers, and shows them the reality of saving an animal’s life. One would never regret adopting a loving animal in need of a home from a shelter, especially since most of them bring smiles.
The details and shapes found in my poster were made to look organic and fun, because they resemble a happy animal’s personality. I decided to make the entire background black because the contrast between vivid colorful shapes and an extremely dark background emphasize the brightness connected to the message of the ads.
